Three days to Lantern Night, and the whole village could use a hand
Every autumn, the animals of Thistledown float paper lanterns down Brook Lane to thank the year for its harvest. This year Lantern Night is three days away, and things are going sideways. Old Mother Burrow, the badger who makes every lantern, has sprained her paw. Someone keeps borrowing jam from the bakery at night. And Pip and Clover, the two best friends who always lead the parade, have stopped speaking. The village needs a few kind strangers to help it get ready.
Thistledown is a hedgerow village of round doors, crooked chimneys and gardens that grow a little too well. Brook Lane winds past the bakery, the lantern workshop, the ferry landing and the village green, where the Lantern Night stage is half-built. Autumn leaves drift everywhere, the kettles are always on, and every neighbor has an opinion and a spare scone.
A warm, crowded bakery at the heart of Brook Lane, run by a flustered rabbit named Marigold. Bread cools on every shelf, flour hangs in the air, and one jam shelf sits suspiciously empty.
