Ours never will.
"Can't make it this week" for the 6th week in a row. Your campaign has been in Session 3 since October.
"You can go anywhere you want!" You go left. "...except left. There's an invisible wall."
You've spent 2 hours listening to an NPC's backstory. You haven't rolled a single die. The NPC is definitely the GM's self-insert.
"Actually, grappling in 5e works like-" It's been 40 minutes. You're still on Round 1.
Created a Discord server. Pinged everyone. Made a Session 0 doc. Was never heard from again.
"Almost done with worldbuilding, we'll start next month." That was 2022.
The GM's character just solo'd the boss, delivered the final monologue, AND got the magic sword. You were there too, technically.
"So you enter the... place. And there's a... guy. He wants you to... do a thing." *flips through empty notebook*
No scheduling. No cancellations. No "sorry something came up." Your campaign runs when YOU want to play.
Won't monologue for 45 minutes. Won't make every NPC flirt with the bard. Won't "forget" your backstory.
Initiative. Spell slots. HP. Dice rolls. This isn't a chatbot — it's a Game Master that actually knows the rules.
You're right. It can't do everything a great human GM does. It won't create that perfect emotional moment your friend did in Session 47 of a years-long campaign.
But it CAN:
The bar isn't “better than the best GM you've ever had.”
The bar is “better than not playing at all.”
And it clears that bar by a mile.
