Play FreeHow to Split D&D Loot Fairly
Splitting treasure after an encounter is one of those things that should be simple but never quite is. This calculator handles the math so your group can get back to playing. Enter the total coins in each denomination, set your party size, and get an instant even split with remainder handling.
Coin Denominations in D&D 5e
D&D uses four main coin types. From most to least valuable:
- Platinum (pp) — 1 pp = 10 gp. Rare and valuable, usually found in high-level hoards.
- Gold (gp) — The standard currency. Most prices in the Player's Handbook are listed in gold.
- Silver (sp) — 1 gp = 10 sp. Common for everyday purchases in towns and villages.
- Copper (cp) — 1 sp = 10 cp. The smallest denomination, often found in low-level encounters.
Handling Remainders
When coins don't divide evenly, this calculator shows the leftover amount. Common table rules for remainders include putting them in a party fund, giving them to the character who did the most in the fight, or converting up (10 cp = 1 sp, 10 sp = 1 gp) and re-splitting.
Splitting Items
Magic items, gems, and art objects can't be divided like coins. Add items to the list and assign them to party members. Many groups let the character who can use an item best take it, or rotate who picks first after each encounter.
